Srinagar: In North Kashmir, traders, fruit growers and civil society members held a protest at Sopore Fruit Mandi, today, to demand revocation of order restricting the movement of civilian vehicles on Srinagar-Jammu highway during the ongoing Amarnath yatra.
The protesters were holding placards and banners with messages like ‘we love yatris’, ‘lift the ban on highway’ and ‘save fruit industry of valley’.
The protesters said they whole heartedly welcome the yatris but asked the authorities to devise a mechanism to ensure unhindered movement of the vehicles on the highway.
A trader said that vegetables, fruits and some varieties of apples which ripe early were perishing on the highway as trucks remained halted due to the restrictions.
